It occurred to me that the only time that people seem to think about the ground that they’re walking on is if they trip over it or when remodelling their homes. With all the buzz about going green, homeowners are following the trends and looking for natural, earth-friendly products when renovating their bathrooms. There are a number of sustainable flooring merchandise on the market such as bamboo flooring and cork flooring products. Down at the Calgary Home + Interior Design Show, I literally walked onto the Alberta Hardwood Flooring display and had an interesting conversation with Kevin one of the companies’ sales consultants about cork as a possible bathroom flooring material. One of the best ways to organize your bathroom is to compartmentalize it. Down at The Calgary Home and Interior Design Show I came across these nifty little drawers that help your bathroom vanity to stay organized. Roll-Out drawers maximize precious shelf and cabinet space by opening up the often unused hard to access back areas of your shelves and drawers. Down at the Calgary Home and Interior Design Show I happened to bump into Mark Heinemann of OnEsta Tile Supply and we started talking about the popularity of heating your bathroom floors using Laticrete Floor HEAT. By the way OnEsta Tile Supply is a Calgary based wholesaler that provides beautiful imported natural stone, marble, slate and porcelain tile to both residential and commercial customers. While tankless water heaters have been around in Europe for many, many years they have not until recently in the last couple of years taken root in North America. You can have a whole house tankless water heater system or a combination of whole house and point of usage models. According to Hansen Plumbing and Heating at the Calgary Home and Interior Design Show, the Navien tankless water heater is 98% efficient because it only heats water when called upon. In essence the Navien system senses the demand for hot water flow and starts the water heating process. Unlike old technology water tanks that heat and reheat the same water 24 hours a day, this is more like hot water on demand. Read the rest of this entry »

While windows are not the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks about bathrooms, they are still an important part of the décor. Bathrooms will benefit significantly from having a well organized and imaginatively designed window system. Windows let in natural light and warmth, provide ventilation and also make your bathroom space appear more open and less congested. Down at the Calgary Home + Interior Design Show, I happened to stop in at the J Damer Windows and Doors display when I noticed this interesting awning window. Dan Merkosky the owner of the 1-5 million dollar company had a few words to say about why the European tilt-and-turn window is a great casement solution for your bathroom.
