Creating a Lavish Bathroom on a Shoe-String Budget

So, you have an outdated bathroom, one that is not functioning properly or one that is too small and you do not have a lot of extra money to spend on a big bathroom renovation project. Don’t worry. You can still create a great looking bathroom without spending an excessive amount of money.

Before getting started on your bathroom remodeling project, you will need to figure out your remodeling budget. Take a fresh look at your bathroom. Many times when things are not the way they should be or are ugly and outdated, people will just want to start over and throw out the old. However, this can be quite costly.

The first thing you must do is take a fresh look at your bathroom. Step into your bathroom and make a note of what is actually wrong with it. Does the toilet not work or the sink leak? Or, if you think is it just simply “ugly”, what is it specifically that you do not like? If you do not like your walls or your flooring, then what is the point in replacing a perfectly functional and decent looking toilet? Your pocket book will not take such a large hit if you really think through what your desires or needs are.

If your bathtub or tub/shower combination is not the right color, but works just fine, you can consider resurfacing the walls above the tub and simply add new doors. This will make your bathtub look brand new and reduce the amount of money you spend from your bathroom budget that could otherwise be spent on a more pressing problem.

Let’s take a look at your cabinets. Instead of completely replacing your cabinets, which could take a big chunk out of your budget, you could sand down and refurbish the finish with a new stain color. There are many stains available that will create a brand new look to your bathroom. Adding new hardware and a new vanity top will also add spice to your bathroom.

Toilets are something that you may want to consider replacing; it is a known fact that old toilets are prone to be notorious water guzzlers. Although you may need to spend a little more out of your budget, it will save you even more in the long run on your water bill. There are many different styles of toilets available. Just remember to check on their water efficiency level before you purchase.

Your floors may need to be redone. This may not be as expensive as you may think. There are many different types of flooring available at many different prices such as vinyl, linoleum, and tile. Just be sure that whatever you choose is slip resistant, even when it is wet, and that it can withstand the water and steam a bathroom will have.

If your fixtures are properly working and you are satisfied with how they look, then take a look around and write down what actually needs to be done. It is entirely possible that you do need to remodel the entire bathroom. Your bathroom remodeling budget can only go so far. Make wise decisions and try to save as much money as you can. If you are able to create a bathroom that you can be proud of and feel relaxed in within the budget you have developed, then you will feel much happier and you will be able to use that money on another project in the house!
