Steamy mirrors in the bathroom. Damp moisture dripping down your bathroom walls.. Fogged windows so you can’t see yourself shaving or putting on makeup. These seemingly negligible annoyances can often lead to much deeper problems. Mold. Mildew. Peeling paint. Warping. Ruined insulation. Even wood rot. Your bathroom can compound moisture problems like these because of the small space. Concentrated moisture requires a concentrated ventilation solution.

As the trend of larger in home spa-like bathrooms continues to gain in popularity, the need for proper ventilation becomes even more important to the homeowner.

Long gone are the days where a single bath fan in the center of the room could easily ventilate your bathroom. The solution to proper ventilation in oversized master baths filled with luxurious amenities such as steam showers is to create spot ventilation at the source of the moisture. Ceiling Grilles or Ceiling Grilles with Lights can be easily positioned over showers, whirlpool tubs, steam showers, toilets and vanities.

Swift removal of moisture at the source as soon as it happens will keep your bathroom free of mold and the devastating effects of excessive moisture. Generously proportioned bathrooms, or those with luxurious big fixtures, such as spas, will proportionally need larger fans. A good rule of thumb is to place a bathroom fan as close as possible to the source of the moisture or offending odour. But bigger does not necessarily mean louder. When choosing a bathroom fan, seek out fans labeled ‘low noise’ or ‘quiet,’ and check for the HVI rating. Try to avoid fans that are not rated, there is a good chance that it will be noisy and to be quite honest who wants to live in a wind tunnel.
