Miss USA Rachel Smith Slips and Falls in My Bathroom!
Now that would be my worst nightmare! Just thinking about the legalities makes my head spin…“My brain went white, and then two seconds later I was so thankful for all the people who supported me through this most unfortunate ordeal!” Those were the words more or less of Miss USA, Rachel Smith after tripping on her evening gown and landing on her butt at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City. Now while I cannot even begin to comprehend the ten seconds of anguish that that poor lady went through, I do applaud the courage and composure she displayed after falling and then getting back up with a wave and a smile. Wow, that woman had nerves of steel! Myself, I probably would have run off the stage in embarrassment! Now what does this have to do with bathrooms you say, well, in my mind everything has to do with bathrooms! When I saw her fall, I remember thinking to myself, I better not let her use my bathroom because the tile in there is pretty damn slippery too. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to poke fun at her indignity, its just that being a “Bathroomguru”, that’s all I ever think about, is bathrooms!
Besides ceiling and walls, the floor is the next largest surface in your bathroom so this is going to take a lot of time, money and effort to renovate. I just want you to know that when you are ready to tile your bathroom, you should consider all your options. First of all you should think twice about tiling a full bathroom as your first attempt, especially if you have absolutely no tiling experience. Try small areas like splashbacks first to get a feel of the process. Also choose your surface material with care as polished varieties may prove to be unacceptably slippery.
Two materials that I recommend are Ceramic and Porcelain tile. Ceramic tiles are made from refined clay that is pressed into molds and then fired at extreme high temperature. Ceramic tiles are water and wear resistant. They are slightly slippery, but there are non-slip versions available which contain silicon carbide. Porcelain bathroom tiles are harder to install but they are dense, waterproof and are great for a non-slip surface. Typically the sizes of the tiles are around 12×12 inches or 18×18 inches. It should be noted here that the smaller the size of tile the less slippery it will be due to the reduced surface. Which ever material you choose the result will be a beautiful bathroom floor that will change the whole look and feel of your bathroom.
