Learn How to Create a Seasonal Bathroom in The Splendor of Autumn!

“Let what is going on outside influence what’s going on inside” an interesting quote taken from Seasonal Home a source book of inspirational decorating ideas to help you embrace the seasons. This got me thinking about why you should style your bathroom for the seasons. The fact of the matter is that the home is not a static place. With each changing season comes a different mood and a different way that we interact with our environment. Why not fashion your bathroom to reflect the changing seasons around us. This will not only change the spirit of your bathroom but will allow you too mentally and physically interact with Mother Nature to inspire and awaken your senses with a palette of golden yellows, oranges and fiery reds!

While the other seasons such as spring entices us to think of renewal and spring cleaning, summer fills us with enthusiasm and thoughts of a long awaited blissful vacation, it is autumn (fall) that gets us in the mood for closure of things still unfinished and the preparation for the coming winter snug cocooning months. The bright colors of fall add splendor and warmth to our bathroom. You can do this through a small gesture such as bringing in brightly colored leaves and twigs in a vase or it can be in a more encompassing theme such as a fall themed shower curtain with yellow and red leaves. A faded flame-stitch pattern of a kilim bath mat will fit right in. Pictures on your walls of orchids of trees or park walkways lined with fallen auburn leaves will set the mood.

Another way to bring fall into your bathroom is to create seasonal still life’s that you can place in a nook, your countertop, toilet tank or even your window sill. Think of the harvest of autumn. Visit your local farmers market or organic grocer to gather your inspirations. Enjoy the fruits of the season: pumpkins, squash, autumnal hydrangeas, apples, pears, nuts and sunflowers can all be used to add color, texture and refreshing scents to heighten your mood to positive effect. Acorns and pine cones as well as flowers such as rudbeckia and poppies combined with spiky thistles and rose hips can be put in glass containers or wooden bowls on shelves and window sills to create rustic charm.

A slowing turning mobile hanging from your bathroom ceiling made of a twig, string and dangling walnuts or acorns adds childlike charm to the room. A comfy plaid robe hanging from a wall hook adds to the ambience. A carved pumpkin with a flickering candle inside will give off just enough light while you take your relaxing bath. If you have enough room, bring in weathered wicker furniture, a wicker hamper (clothes basket) or burlap containers to hold your soaps and essentials. Yellow, tan, and brown candles can also add to the autumn theme you are trying to create. Just remember to introduce a tinge of complementary color such as a green soap dish to really contrast and bring out the warmth of your decorations.

Observe what is around you in nature and try to emulate and bring in those everyday wonders into your bathroom and you too can create the perfect seasonal autumn bathroom.
