If you are planning on pursing a full bathroom renovation then it is imperative that you properly plan the job. Not only should you have an alternative bathroom facility available to be used, but basic planning and forethought on how to proceed with the demolition of the walls, floors and even you ceiling will make the job go a lot smoother. You should also take precautions in not only preparing the bathroom construction zone for demolition but it would also be a good idea to protect the rest of your home from the inevitable messy work ahead by containing the dust and debris from tearing walls apart and knocking things down. In this case plastic sheets and tarps are your best friends so having plenty of them available to protect floors and create dust barriers at entrances and hallways is a must.

Decide what you want to keep, what you want to throw away and what you want to recycle. Keep safety in mind as you work, make sure the electricity is turned off to the bathroom, remove nails and other protruding objects as you work, wear safety masks and protective eyewear and clothing. This may all seem to be a bit much but it is better to be safe than sorry. Designate an area for trash and debris and never leave anything on the ground that you could possibly trip or slip on. Have a trash can available or double bag your debris (who wants to clean up even more mess from you bags breaking).

Whether you are removing tile, plaster, fixtures, drywall or framing members, tearing things apart can be fun and liberating. Not only does it get the ball going, you can also visually measure your progress and this gives you an incentive to get rid of the old to make way for your new refurbished bathroom.
