A powder room is sometimes called a half-bath and is normally located conveniently near activity areas and in many cases it is also a personally designed suite. These rooms are on the whole used by guest and are generally prettier than your average family bathroom because of their smaller size you can invest in more expensive opulent building materials.

Half baths are convenient little spaces that usually include a sink and toilet and the placement of these fixtures are determined by the size and shape of the room. In a square bathroom it is better to place the toilet and sink on the same wall whereas in a bathroom with a longer floor plan it is more beneficial to place the sink and toilet on the opposite ends of the lavatory.

The placement of the power room should offer the guest some form of privacy. Try not to have the half-bath open up near a kitchen or living room if possible. Basically try to keep it partially secluded away from high traffic activity areas where people congregate in your home. The best placement for a power room is somewhere along a hallway or around the corner where the guest will not be embarrassed to use the facility in front of all their friends.

Because of its smaller size, a powder room should have smaller fixtures to better use the limited space. For example a pedestal sink will take up much less space than a vanity and sink combination fixture. If you are concerned about storage of towels or toiletries, simply install a ledge above the sink or a recessed area beside the mirror. It should be mentioned here that you should install proper ventilation to whisk away unpleasant odours and a mirror is pretty much a necessity which allows guest to touch up their make up or visually adjust their clothing after using the facility.
