I may be dating myself but being a parent, one of my favorite TV shows on PBS, was “Bob the Builder”. I remember spending many Saturday mornings with my son watching the show and thinking, man I wish I had this when I was a little kid. The show made its TV debut in the UK in 1998. Set in and around a construction yard in a small town, Bob and his loveable gang of machines took on projects around town to help the town’s people.
What I remember most about Bob was the slogan of the Saturday morning cartoon, “Bob the builder, yes we can!” attitude. Sometimes in our lives we are faced with a bathroom project that we have no previous skill set or it seems so daunting that we would just like to crawl into the nearest vanity cabinet and suck our thumb like a little baby but we know that no matter how long we procrastinate the task will still be there, waiting for us when we emerge from our temporary hide-a-way. When you feel frustrated just think of Bob and the Can-Do Crew and how they demonstrated the power of positive-thinking, problem-solving, teamwork and follow-through. Like most projects, if you break them down into segmented measurable goals, then they are easily manageable and don’t appear as incredulous as they first appeared to be. Read the rest of this entry »
