Steam Cleaners – A Green and Effective Way to Clean Your Bathroom

The bathroom can often prove to be the trickiest room of the house to clean, and increasingly more people have good reasons for turning to a steam cleaner to keep a clean and healthy environment where it most matters. This is a very delicate room for what concerns hygiene, as often the skin, for instance when you shower, is the only barrier between you and the surrounding area. Read the rest of this entry »

The Relaxing Bath

Creating a relaxing bath has probably saved many marriages and the sanity of some individuals. Humans have lived in dwellings for thousands of years but it was not until the nineteenth century that the humble bathroom was integrated into the design of their homes. At the turn of the century, the first pioneers placed a water closet in the same room as a tub, the space barely large enough to house the fixtures. That was then, now modern bathrooms have made up for lost time and are now regarded as an essential room in our homes. Personalizing your bath by creating a relaxing home spa has become trendy and in some cases a necessity. And it is simple to do. Choose the fluffiest towels, hang your bathrobe to warm on a radiator or towel warmer, play relaxing music, dim the lights, add some incense or candles and unwind. This is your comfort zone so relax in your bath and take a load off. Read the rest of this entry »

Designing a Botanical Bathroom

Dirt in your bathroom is good! Question: Which room in your home is by nature a hot and humid atmosphere, the perfect environment for growing plants? All you need is a little light and you can turn that stark looking bathroom into a luxurious tropical paradise with the addition of nature’s perfect natural accessory, plants. Got a green thumb, why not put it to use designing a botanical bathroom? Many moisture loving plants thrive in this wet environment and are well suited to the bathroom. Creating a garden theme in your bathroom offers the bath renovator a contemporary and aesthetically pleasing way to spruce up a simple bath interior with the contrast of lush greenery. Miss those warm sunny days? Bring back memories of those lazy summer days with earthy colors and a garden palette to create an indoor getaway with your botanical bath. Read the rest of this entry »

Bathroom Remodeling Trends: What’s Making a Splash

Presentt bathroom renovation and remodeling trends have transformed a room that in the past was once reserved as a kind of “unmentionable place” for performing grooming and bodily functions into a designer outfitted trend setting room whose layout is all about form and function for the bathroom user. Due to the current direction of bathroom remodeling trends, the modern designed bathroom has taken its place beside the kitchen and living room, as an area of the home that is intended to please the end user by providing more functionality, personalization and relaxation. What’s making a splash in bathroom decorating trends is designers moving towards turning our masterbaths into a home spa sanctuary, the proliferation of bathroom themes to personalize our bath spaces, the changing relationship of the family structure dictating bathroom usage tendencies, and the movement toward more environmentally friendly building materials and EPA water saving standard fixtures have all contributed to this new direction in bath remodel trending and design sensibilities. Home Expo 2010

Hi everyone, it’s me again, Anthony. I just got back from the Home Expo 2010 Show down at the BMO Centre in Calgary, Alberta and I believe this is the first show of the year directed towards the housing industry. Home Expo is one of Calgary’s premier home, renovation and décor shows, this year featuring such personalities as Sarah Richardson (host of Sarah’s House on HGTV) and John Sillaots and Reena Nerbas. The show was very diverse this year and even included a section featuring Recreation and Investment Properties. I must say that it was really busy this year and having talked to some of the bathroom renovation sales reps and business owners down there, according to them, things seem to be picking up pretty good as we enter into 2010. One business owner even told me that compared to similar shows he had attended last September and October 2009, this year he was able to make twice the contacts and leads than last year, so he was definitely a happy camper! The Benefits of a Milk Bath

A silky warm milk bath sounds sumptuous doesn’t it? And why not, how many times have we heard that milk is good for you. For ages nutritionists have been raving about how good milk is for your bones and teeth, so why wouldn’t it be good for your skin and complexion as well? What most people don’t realize is that women have been using milk as a beauty product secret for centuries and it is not until recently that the general public have been made aware of the replenishing wonders of a milk based bath. Milk baths when taken on a regular basis can soften and smooth your skin, even making it firmer and more radiant and silky to the touch due to milks natural exfoliation properties. While a milk bath does offer you the benefits of skin care in a home spa, you can also add other natural ingredients such as honey, oatmeal, lavender and even natural clay to increase the beautifying affects of your milk bath mixture. Hey everyone this is Anthony Mclean from the Bathroomguru Review. I just came back from the 10th Annual Buildex Convention down at the Stampede grounds in the building formerly known as the Roundup Centre; now distinguished as the BMO Convention Centre, in Calgary, Alberta. With over 250 exhibits, Buildex Calgary is Alberta’s largest annual tradeshow and conference for Designing, Building and Managing Real Estate. It is touted as the place to be for those wishing to discover the newest trends, products and educational sessions for the construction, renovation and design industry in Alberta. Slate In Design Shines at The Calgary Home + Interior Design Show

Captivating, alluring, enduring and enchanting are just a few of the words that come to mind when looking at these emotionally uplifting wall waterfalls created by Slate In Design. Down at the Calgary Home + Interior Design Show I came across an oasis in a sea of vendors and as I stopped in to talk with the owner and creator of these magnificent works of art using natural and man-made materials, I was intrigued to learn more about the company’s humble beginnings to where they are today with an incredible demand for these one of a kind artistic masterpieces. If you are a connoisseur of art you can appreciate the endless possibilities for the application of these 3-D wall waterfalls, from the refuge of your spa bathroom, to your living room feature wall, to the foyer of a major corporation, these works of art can find a home just about anywhere. Striking Glass Reflects at the Calgary Home + Interior Design Show 2009

I came across some interesting booths on my travels around the Calgary Home and Interior Design Show. While the majority of the vendors that I interviewed were in the bathroom industry, there were others that I imagined could somehow be applied to enrich your lavatory décor; Striking Glass was one such vendor. It occurred to me that a lot of people would like to display art in their bathrooms. Unfortunately that art has to be well protected behind special airtight glass so that the artwork is not damaged from the moisture ridden environment. And even then it’s a precarious situation. What if you could have beautiful decorative art that would never get mold, mildew or any other sort of water damage? This is where Penny Ellis of Striking Glass comes into play. As you can see the art that she produces is beautiful as well as recycled for that extra green touch. Read the rest of this entry »

The 2009 Calgary Home + Interior Design Show

Hey everyone this is Anthony Mclean here. On the insistence and slight hot poker prodding of my boss Eric Spurt, I sheepishly trotted down to the Calgary Home and Interior Design Show which runs from September 17-20 at the BMO Centre at Stampede Park, Calgary, Alberta. At first I was slightly reluctant because he wanted me to go down there and interview the booth presenters so we could get the pulse of the bathroom retail market. I’m not a timid guy but I must admit the thought of interviewing all those people did overwhelm me. The funny thing is as soon as I started walking around and saw some of the great stuff that was on display down there, it was a natural thing to ask questions about them. So as it tuned out, in the five and a half hours that I was down there I managed to acquire about twenty-one different interviews with a number of the vendors. Read the rest of this entry »
