Ok, so we all know how great and convenient it would be to have a TV hanging on your bathroom wall while you relax in your tub after a hard days work. But here is a slight twist for you, did you know you can also get a television embedded in your bathroom mirror as well. What was that? I heard that you know… I hear some of you saying, so what? I already spend too much time in the bathroom, you say, I certainly don’t need the distraction of a TV while putting on my face in the morning. For some of us that may be true but I say unto you Read the rest of this entry »

Watching TV from or in the bathroom isn’t a totally new innovation; people have been positioning their TV’s outside their bathroom doors or even dragging their sets on to their bathroom counter tops or toilet seats for some time, just so they can get their TV fix while performing their daily bathroom activities. But alas eventually they just got tired of lugging those big heavy televisions all over the place and sooner or later the novelty wore off and the inconvenience set in, so instead they just blasted the volume from the other room and listened to the commentary instead of actually watching it. Sounds familiar? Read the rest of this entry »

Unless you are involved in the home building or construction industry you’ve probably never heard of the (CHBA) Canadian Home Builders Association. Yet they have been there in the background influencing policies and decision makers in many different levels of government on behalf of the construction industry. Rapid changes in technology and information systems have had an expansive impact on the way the home improvement marketplace now does business. And with that change has come new challenges for both the home owner and Read the rest of this entry »

Though carpet is an unusual choice for most bathroom floors, who doesn’t like the feel of soft carpeting under their bare feet? Unfortunately as appealing as this sounds, carpeting has a tendency to hold moisture which can breed mold and mildew creating a very unhealthy and pungent smelling environment. Over time this moisture can seep into your floor boards and cause wood rot which may invariably lead to structural damage and challenge the stability of your bathroom floor. Not a pretty picture. Keeping your bathroom well heated and ventilated should rank high on your list when creating good bathroom design. If you’re like the rest of us who live in moderately changing climate zones then read on my fellow Bathroom Gurus. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and we have some pretty cold winter days up here. There has been many times after taking a hot relaxing shower that I’m scared to get out of that luxurious steamy warmth and step out onto my cold bathroom floor. Read the rest of this entry »

The largest surface area in your bathroom is your walls next to your bathroom floor and ceiling. Walls can be light and neutral or bold and exciting depending on whether you want them to recede or boldly make a statement. Variations in color, motifs and texture can bring mismatched fixtures together or break your design coherence. Paints, wall coverings, tile and laminates such as wall paper can be your best friend or literally be an eye sore. Read the rest of this entry »

Hey did you hear that…..If you didn’t, listen real close, how about putting your ear to the wall to see if that helps. Still nothing? Good. One of the most over looked attributes about your bathroom is sound control. Its probably not the first thing that comes to mind when designing a bathroom but if your bathroom is a high traffic area or people work at different times of the day, then the times that people use your bathroom could possibly become an issue. So how do you keep the noises within your bathroom from drifting into other parts of your home? One way to counter the problem is through Read the rest of this entry »

Your typical bathroom medicine cabinet has many different useful purposes. It not only serves as a convenient place to store your medicines, you can also hide your toiletries away and the cabinet door doubles as a versatile swinging mirror. While you may be able to store these items elsewhere such as in a pull out drawer or a nearby closet, the medicine cabinet provides relatively secure, accessible and convenient location in case of an emergency. Here’s a trick question for you, how do you flood your bathroom with natural light without taking up valuable wall space? Answer; look up, look way up as the friendly giant would say. The roof is for more than just shingles you know. The sky or skylight is really the limit. Skylights in your bathroom now allow you to augment lighting in your bathroom and reduce lighting costs. You can now bring natural light into that bathroom that traditionally didn’t have wall windows. Or you may choose to add a skylight to simply retain your privacy while enjoying the benefits of daylight with a beautiful view of the sky while soaking in your tub. Read the rest of this entry »

Thank you for visiting Bathroomguru Review – Your ultimate DIY home improvement destination for ideas on bathroom renovations, remodelling your bathroom, bathroom design tips & tricks, current bathroom trends, bathroom repair, bathroom product reviews and interviews with bathroom industry professionals. Check out our site to learn the secrets of professional bathroom renovators and make sure the job is done right the first time.
If you are a first time bathroom renovator, you should create a bathroom renovation checklist to ensure a smooth transition from task to task and keep your bathroom renovation costs down. Fixtures such as faucets, pedestal sinks and medicine cabinets can be replaced quite easily when remodelling your bathroom. However, if you are planning to put in a new bathtub, upgrade your shower, or re-tile your bathroom floor or walls then more renovation planning and bath design preparation will be needed. If you don’t plan on doing the work yourself, finding a reputable bath renovation contractor is very important.
Your bathroom renovations will be less expensive if you do the majority of the renovation work yourself, but be sensible. If you don’t need to reposition the plumbing pipes or the ventilation air ducts, then you can probably do the work yourself. But if most of the work incorporates plumbing then you may want to hire a professional plumber, so be prepared to add this expense to your remodelling budget.
Creating a theme for your bathroom will bring your bathroom design elements together. You can hire an interior decorator to help you find creative bath design ideas you may not have thought of by yourself or you can look at bathroom pictures in magazine or online for inspiration. Bathroom design has evolved from being just a place to wash and perform bodily functions to creating a more personalize space. A popular trend in bathrooms is to transform your master bath into a home spa that incorporates design functionality with therapeutic rejuvenation. Designing your bathroom can be done by anyone as long as you remember to apply the six principles of good bathroom design.
Upgrading your bathroom can be fun and exciting and if done properly updating your bathroom will be a good home investment for years to come.
