How to Create a Contemporary Christmas Theme for Your Bathroom – Inspirational Bathroom Decoration Ideas to Help You Embrace the Holiday Season!

So Christmas is just around the bend and you want to do something different in your bathroom to get into the Christmas spirit. You may want to create some transitory displays that are easy to take down and store away after the holiday season. Or if you plan on doing this on a yearly basis or just want to dress up the bathroom with a different theme for each holiday, it might be a good idea to create a permanent display wall using 3 inch wide narrow white shelves so that you have a blank canvas to put up your display. These thin shelves are unobtrusive and can be used to add inspiring contemporary knick knacks, postcards, sketches or photos when the mood strikes.

What ever you decide, just remember to coordinate your colors, create a focal point and enhance the overall design by throwing in a little something of contrast to add interest to the overall theme. This could also be achieved through varying the size of the items used in your contemporary Christmas bathroom theme.

These are some of the images that should come to mind when you think of a contemporary Christmas theme, Martha Stewart, bows, ribbons, fabrics, trimmings and lace, burlap and crystal figurines. Silver and gold painted acorns, twigs, pine cones and other things gathered from nature. Garlands of varying lengths to keep it interesting; wreaths made with pine boughs and pinecones to hang on your bathroom door. Use white, gold and silver colors with highlights of red, green or blue or pastels. Pine branch garnishes, holly, natural wreaths, white decorative lights, white stars, mistletoe, Christmas cards, popcorn string decorations, red and white plaid, green and white plaid, gold and silver bulb decorations in a tall glass flower vase, silhouette of white doves on the windows or hanging from the ceiling, hints of fake frost on the windows, cinnamon sticks for fragrance and a white artificial Christmas tree with bows, silver and gold and green ornaments. Create a Christmas theme Kleenex box covers out of Christmas themed fabric or wrapping paper. Potted baby evergreens with bows, red and white mittens, Styrofoam fake snowballs, intricate snowflakes cut out of white paper hanging from the ceiling.

The feeling you are trying to create is a clean minimalist sense with accents of color to add variety and highlight certain areas of your contemporary Christmas themed bathroom that you want to be the center of attention. This works best with a neutral off white color, pastel or plain white walls.

An example of what you can do to create a contemporary Christmas theme in your bathroom is to hang a natural wreath, spray painted white, on the bathroom door. Let’s say the accent color is green and gold. You will want to use these three color combinations though out the entire bathroom (white, green and gold). The wreath should have green and gold bulbs, trinkets, or mini lights to add interest to the otherwise monochromatic white wreath. The beauty of this is the texture; when you get up close to it you can clearly see how the wreaths acorns and twigs and trimmings cast interesting shadows to enhance the subtle feeling of texture and space.

If your door is already white, a green wreath with gold accents would also look quite nice. What about a large green bow with gold bells hanging on the bathroom door. Layer your towels by hanging green hand towels over larger white towels or vice versa. Hang green and white dove cut outs from the ceiling. Create a green, white and gold winter wonderland cut out of evergreen tree silhouettes in snow banks and tack to the walls. Spray paint acorns, twigs, holiday nuts gold and green and put in a bowl or glass vase. Place white and green candy canes in a jar on a shelf or on the toilet bowl tank, of course the tank will be draped with white and gold or green and white or green and gold or even a solid green fabric. Your shower curtain can be replaced with one that has varying shades of green bulbs painted on a white background. The bathroom mats can also reflect the white, gold or green color scheme. Place solid green soap on a white or gold platter along with artificial pine garlands or simply a green soap dispenser. Green and white candles in a gold base either on the toilet tank, window sill or on the vanity and garnish the décor with sprigs of holly and short lengths of garland to give it atmosphere. Faux greenery can be placed on window sills, toilet tanks, shelves, or the vanity.

If you are afraid of something catching on fire in your absence, you can buy battery operated candles instead of having a real flame. Green, white and gold ornaments can also be hung around the mirror. Create a Christmas vignette to be placed by the bathroom window or on top of the toilet tank. Simply adding a potted poinsettia in either of these two places will also add a seasonal flair to your contemporary bathroom theme. And don’t forget the tinsel; green and gold tinsel can be placed in a jar or vase, hung in bathroom windows or around doors, around the mirror or from the ceiling etc. Let your creativity run wild. Just remember to pick a simple color scheme and stick to it.

Christmas is all about an expression of love for your fellow man; don’t forget to love yourself as well by using the things that are dear to you in the creation of your contemporary Christmas bathroom.
