Down at the Calgary Home and Interior Design Show I was able to experience first hand the magic of a working Relax-A-Mist Steam shower display. I talked to the owner Mark Attersall and he explained to me the benefits of taking a steam bath over an ordinary shower.

Pretty much everyone has heard that steam baths are suppose to be good for you yet a lot of people are hard pressed to give three consecutive good reasons why. The typical answers are: it helps you relax or it’s good for your skin or it relieves joint pain and muscle tension/stiffness, which are all true. But steam baths can do a lot more for your well being if used on a regular basis and can have a strong impact on your longevity and health.

It is interesting to note that the heat from a steam bath actually causes your body to increase the production of white blood cells essentially activating your body’s defence mechanism against disease and viruses, thereby keeping your immune system strong and in tip top condition. And for those with respiratory problems the elevated moisture content in a steam room is perfect for relieving sinus congestion and other breathing troubles such as asthma and bronchitis. This in turn ensures that your heart and blood vessels are able to continue delivering oxygen and nutrients throughout your body, increasing your body’s healing rate, not to mention carrying away waste materials so that the toxins don’t build up in your system. As we all know poor circulation has been scientifically linked to a number of mostly avoidable health problems.

Our lymph system and our body’s blood both help to carry waste material away from our body’s cells in essence detoxifying your body. Regular steam baths aids in enhancing our lymph systems ability to cleansing our body of bacteria and excess fat from our small intestines. This is important since our lymphatic system is part of our immune system; it has the potential to affect every organ and cell in our body if it is not functioning properly. So as you can see taking a regular steam bath has far greater deep rooted ramifications than the superficial surface benefits of a better looking completion.
