Apex Tile and Marble at the Calgary Home + Interior Design Show – Interview
One of the first booths that I came across at the Calgary Home + Interior Design Show was Apex Tile and Marble. Apex is a family owned business and was incorporated in June of 1996 and have been providing customers with quality installations for more than 13 years. With a wide spread customer base that includes; homeowners, contractors, builders, remodelers & designers, they serve the community at large. Listen now as I interview one of the owners about the tile and marble industry and we talk about the emerging trends in bathroom tiling and the popularity of porcelain tile.
One of the interesting questions answered on the Apex Tile & Marble website that a lot of customers ask is: “Do I need to seal my stone/tile floors?” The response goes on to say that while sealants are normally used on tiles to improve durability and appearance, increase stain resistance, reduce efflorescence, and increase or reduce surface smoothness. Before sealing or selecting a sealer you should be aware of three considerations:
1) First of all, do you even need to seal it? Believe it or not, not all tiles need to be sealed. However sealing natural stone depends on a number of things, the main one being how porous the stone is.
2) The next thing that you need to take into consideration is where your stone will be located and what elements it will be exposed to.
3) And lastly the finished look after sealing your stone floor can dramatically change the mood and appearance of your entire bathroom. From matte to gloss and all the nuances in-between choose your finish carefully to get that perfect impression.
