Creating a Child Friendly Bathroom – How to Keep Your Kids Safe in Your Bathroom!

Your children get to an age where they really want to be independent. Once they have accomplished a task, there is no stopping them. That is, unless they can’t reach the bathroom sink or the toilet because it’s simply too high! This can be very frustrating for a child that is trying to make his mark in the world, even at three years old!

Not only is this frustrating to a child, it is also frustrating for the parents who have to stop what they are doing to turn on the light or help their child wash their hands, especially when they know their child is perfectly capable of “doing it all by himself”.

Fortunately you can actually turn your bathroom into a child friendly bathroom by installing three things – a motion sensor light, a hands-free faucet and a soft-closing toilet.

Installing a motion sensor light will detect movement when your child goes into the bathroom. It will turn on the light automatically and shut off the light automatically by a timer that you set, when your child leaves the bathroom.

Installing a hands-free faucet will allow your child to place her hands under the spout and water can flow and shut off without human intervention. This is great because it saves on water and the temperature is pre-set to prevent burning.

Believe it or not, there are actually toilets that can shut automatically. Because of hydraulics, a soft closing toilet makes it impossible to slam shut, preventing a child from pinching her fingers.

So, why make these changes when your children will grow fairly quickly? There are other benefits to making these bathroom improvements.

The hands free faucet and motion-sensor light will reduce your water and electric consumption, therefore reducing your utility bill. Both of these items will also help in stopping the spread of germs for the entire family, as there is limited or no touching.

An example of how hands free faucets and light switches can help reduce the spread of germs- Rotavirus is a germ that causes gastrointestinal illness. It can be transferred from a dry, smooth surface, such as a faucet handle or a light switch to a clean hand for as long as 20 minutes after the surface has been contaminated. This is according to a study published in the Journal of Microbiology.

Converting your bathroom into a child friendly bathroom will help your child become more independent and will help you by not having to run to the bathroom every time your child has to go!

Plus, the health benefits are great. Reducing the spread of germs is important in a family environment. It is shocking how many days of school a child can miss just because the spread of germs causes so much sickness. Even though a child or person washes his hands, it really doesn’t do any good to wash off the germs only to touch the same faucet he turned it on with. The germs are transferred right back onto those little hands!

Consider converting your bathroom into a child friendly bathroom for your child’s independence and the entire family’s health.
